How to clean my engagement ring and diamond jewellery
Wearing rings daily naturally results in them accumulating dirt and grime. Several easy-to-follow tips will be provided in this article about how diamond engagement rings and jewellery should be cleaned and how to keep them looking like new.

DIRTY LOOKING JEWELLERY- WHY?

Dirt and grime accumulate in your ring for many reasons, but the most common one is that diamonds tend to attract oil and grease from products like hand creams, body lotions, moisturisers, and sunscreens. As the oils and emulsion coat your diamond, the sparkle and brilliance of your diamond and jewellery will be muted. Moreover, grease that causes your ring's nooks and crannies to accumulate dust and dirt will further impair the look of your ring.

THE MOST PRACTICAL AND EASIEST WAY TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY AND DIAMOND RING.

Our first step will be to start with the easiest, but most effective, method. We recommend this tip because it is the easiest and the most convenient way to clean your diamond ring and jewellery at home without requiring any specialised or expensive tools. First, fill a cup with warm water, followed by a drop or two of regular dishwashing liquid. Next, use a soft toothbrush to gently but thoroughly clean your jewellery, taking extra care to not miss the spot underneath the diamond. Besides being home-friendly, this cleaning method is also very fast, taking just 10 to 40 seconds, depending on how dirty your ring is.

Tip: It is fine to clean the ring and jewellery regularly, but brush gently to avoid scratches.

Tip: If you haven´t cleaned your ring or jewellery in a while or if there is a substantial accumulation of dirt or grease, there is no need to panic. For best results, soak it in boiling water for 5 minutes with dishwashing liquid before brushing it.

ULTRASONIC CLEANING.

There is also a more specialized cleaning method that uses ultrasonic vibrations. This isn’t the most accessible solution for most as it requires an ultrasonic cleaning machine to function. We will briefly explain what ultrasonic cleaning is and how it works. Here are two options you can choose from if you are interested.

In the ultrasonic machine, vibrations are created by very high frequencies that penetrate through water to break down or dislodge any stubborn deposits on the ring or jewellery that needs to be cleaned. There is one thing to note about ultrasonic cleaning machines: their high frequency noise may irritate people with sensitive hearing.

Option 1

Buying an ultrasonic machine outright is the most convenient option. Ultrasonic cleaning machines are a sound investment since they are easy to use and are known for being extremely durable and long-lasting. Since you only need water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid, you won't need to purchase any additional chemicals or solutions. They are also not very expensive, going for about $40.
Nevertheless, you should always read the safety precautions and instructions before operating one.

Option 2

You can most likely get a free cleaning by taking your ring or jewellery to a local jeweller.

Tip: Always use a dash or two of dishwashing liquid to ensure good cleaning.
Tip: Ultrasonic vibrations are known to damage watches, so avoid putting watches in ultrasonic machines.
Tip: You can get the same results with off-brand ultrasonic machines as with branded machines.
