The 4CS - What really matters when choosing a lab diamond and tips.

• CARAT 


There is no doubt that this is the most important!
There are many reasons why “Carat” takes the top spot out of the 4Cs.


1. A diamond’s size is what first catches your attention.
2. The first question all her friends will ask her is, “What is the size of your diamond?”
3. Of all the four Cs, it contributes the most to price.


Tip 1: You want to maximize your budget by going as big as you can afford. There will never be a time when you regret purchasing a large diamond. Choosing one that is too small, however, will cause you to regret it.


Tip 2:  About 20% of our diamond sales are from couples who are upgrading their previous diamond rings. You will not have to worry about upgrading your diamond in the future if you get a bigger one in the beginning.


• COLOUR


The second most important consideration is colour because it can be observed with the naked eye. If your budget allows, try to get a G or higher colour.


The D-F range consists of colourless white diamonds. From G to J, the colours are nearly colourless. From K and below, the colour becomes slightly yellow. It will become yellower as the colour grade decreases, making the brownish tint more noticeable.


Tip 1: If you are looking for an affordable or larger diamond within your budget, the H colour is a great option.


Tip 2: If your engagement ring is entirely made of yellow gold, you can easily go down to an I (India) colour because the yellow will bring out the white in the diamond, giving it the appearance of a G colour due to the contrast.

• CLARITY 


In most cases, clarity isn’t visible to the naked eye.


Tip 1: Ideally, you should select a diamond with a clarity of “SI1” or “SI2” if you are on a budget. On the other hand, grades of “VS2” and “SI1” are recommended for diamonds over 1.00ct. The exception is the Emerald Cut, which is not covered by this rule.


Tip 2. Our recommendation for an Emerald cut is a clarity grade of “SI1” or “SI2” for diamonds up to 1.00ct, and a “VS2” for diamonds above 1.00ct.


• CUT 


“CUT” is arguably one of the most controversial members of the 4Cs. This is due to the fact that some argue that it is the most important, although this is highly debatable. Is there a reason why it appears at the bottom of this list?


In this guide, our gemmologist has placed Cut as the least important of all the 4Cs due to the fact that most people cannot see the difference. Unless you are trained specifically in this matter, you cannot tell the difference between diamond cuts. We believe that even jewellery store salespeople cannot distinguish the difference.


While the “CUT” is the least important of the four Cs, it is nonetheless generally overrated by many.


Tip 1: Opt for “Ideal” and “Excellent” cuts if your budget allows.


Tip 2: If you are on a tight budget, you can go down to “Very Good,” but don’t go any lower.


You will be able to purchase a diamond that is the right size, white, without obvious inclusions, and with an excellent cut if you follow the above guidelines. The combination of all of these characteristics will ensure that you get a lab grown diamond that will be the envy of everyone who sees it.
